Game Recap

With a new sense of purpose, the Patriots stepped onto the field ready to play. From the opening whistle, PH connected precision passes and immediately applied pressure to the visiting Raiders. Caught on their heels, Atlee found itself defending an attacking Patrick Henry within its defensive 25.

It took only four minutes for the Patriots to score as a result of their efforts. Junior Forward Catherine Dozier took an on-target pass from Senior Caroline Quigley, and slipped the ball past the Atlee goal keeper. PH would continue it’s pressure with intensity, earning several corners, but could not find the net again in the first half. Atlee surged in transition and got a few shots off on Senior Goalkeep Taqiyah Chernesky late in the half, but she and Junior Sweeper Libby Klinger held on to keep the ball out of the goal. (Klinger would come up big later, and had three defensive saves on the night.)

The second half opened much like the first as PH continued their offensive onslaught between the 25s and into the attacking circle. Excellent teamwork from all players got PH on the board again, this time from a penalty corner. Senior Natalie Nichols took the insert to Molly Enright who pounded a shot onto the Atlee keeper’s legs. Senior Midfielder Victoria Watts was there to put the rebound up and over the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

As Atlee began to turn on the pressure, PH held it’s ground with the relentless play from mids Enright and Watts. Sophomore Alyssa Payne continued her battle with disciplined marking, keeping the Raiders’ most dangerous player off ball. Despite the turn in tide favoring Atlee, PH continued its’ attack and as a result, Freshman forward Maggie Ward poked a loose ball in front of the goal over the line for the 3-0 lead.

With an amazing effort from the entire team, PH withstood the final minutes of a threatening attack. Klinger and Chernesky would combine for more saves to keep Atlee off the scoreboard. This was the most complete, intense game for PH this season!
